FRIDAY

The first Friday Cheers event of the season is tonight at Riverfront Park. Gates are open 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., with live music from Superhold, doing 80s music. Bring your blankets and chairs to hang out, and of course there will be food and drinks. That's $5.

 

SATURDAY

Local Colors - this year's featured country is Italy. A day of internation culture, entertaiment and lots of foot. Begins at 11A with the Parade of Nations. Free. Jefferston Street, dowontown Roanoke

Family Day of Discovery - Center in the the Square hosts a grand opening to show off their renovations. Visitors can see what's new at the History Museum of Western Virginia, Harrison Museum of African-American Culture and Science Museum of Western Virginia, now with a butterfly garden. 10a to 6P. Admission: adults $15, children 3 to 17 $10; children 3 and under FREE

Grandin Village Block Party from 2 to 4:30P. Music and lots of family fun. Free

12th annual Puppy Love Ball - Shenenandoah Club in Roanoke. Music by Project 4. Helps the Roanoke Valley SPCA. Cocktail attire is suggested. 6:30P. $75.

Live music at The Ellington on Saturday evening as Graham Whorley takes the stage. He performs rock, jazz and funk.  Music starts at 8:30p.m., and tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.

Armed Forces Day & Nationanl Maritime Recognition at the National D-Day Memorial. Veterans get in FREE. National Maritime Day is May 22 10a to 5P. Regular admission appplies to non-veterans.

BBQ at Sedalia - Saturday at the Sedalia Center in Big Island. Music from the Sam Austin Band. BBQ competition with tastings, beer and wine available for purchase. Noon. $10 advance, $15 at gate.

Saturday - MANNAthon - a 5k or 8K run and 3K family walk to benefit MANNA Ministries. 9A in Fallon Park. Registration price varies.

Enjoy the Nelson County Historic Homes and Properties Tour on Saturday, hosted by The Historical Society of Nelson County.  There are six stops on the tour that includes historic homes, an old school house, and a working mill. The tour is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Vinton's Wine & Food Festival featuring over a dozen Virginia vineyards and wineries. 1 to 6P. Taster ticket $20, non-taster $10 at Vinton War Memorial.

CAFE 5K Family Fun Run/Walk in northwest Roanoke, complete with a Zumba class, vendors, and live music. Kennedy Park on 19th Street.

Festival in the Park Roanoke presents Festival 2013 - River's Edge Sports Complex May7 24 - 27. Daytime activities are FREE. Single night $13 in advance, $15 at the gate. $50 all four days. Free to 8 and younger. VIP tickets $60 per night.

BB&T Party in Elmwood - Downtown Roanoke's Beach Music Thursdays.   New location this year - on Jefferson Street, next to Elmwood Park and the Roanoke Main Library.  Gates open 5:30, music starts at 6P.   FIRST WEEK FREE!!!!!!!    Other weeks $5 per person or buy "an any 10 ticket" for $45.  Kids under 12 free.
 
Bring your lawn chair and relax to great beach music. No coolers.
