RAINY DAYS AND MONDAYS
A new study from the Journal of Positive Psychology finds that Monday’s aren't as bad as we give it credit for.
Researchers say we think Monday's stink because we're happier on the weekends. The huge shift in mood from Sunday to Monday isn’t nearly as huge as the rest of the week, which may explain why Wednesdays and Thursdays don’t seem so bad, in retrospect.
Here are some tips from Men’s Health they say will make things better for you from Monday – Thursday.
Weekdays at 6 a.m.: Send Your Most Important Email
An e-mail sent first thing in the morning will be on top of the pile when people start wading through their inbox, so they’re more likely to open it.
Zone in on Your Most Tedious Task Monday at 9 a.m.
We wake up with a fresh supply of self-discipline, which we use up throughout the day. In the morning it’s as strong as it will ever be.
Monday or Tuesday Afternoon, Schedule a Weekly Check-in with Your Boss
When it comes to face-time with your manager, scheduling a weekly one-on-one on Monday or Tuesday is much better than putting one on the calendar for Thursday or Friday – you’ll leave with action steps for the week instead of leaving for the weekend.
Gather Your Team Together for a Meeting on Wednesday Afternoon
The middle of the week is when people are focused − not sloppily returning from a weekend, or already looking to the next. You should schedule either meetings before or after lunch, at 10 a.m. or 2 p.m.
Thursday Afternoon: Ask for a Promotion
Before you choose a day, know two things: your boss’ schedule and your company’s cycle. If your boss has a Wednesday morning meeting, don’t ask for a meeting right after it. If you work for more of a seasonal company, asking for a raise when business is bad isn’t your best move. And, schedule a meeting with your boss after you accomplish something significant, like saving the company money, making the company a lot of money or solving a problem.

SHAVED HEADS - MANLY OR NOT?
Look at Kenny Chesney or Dr. Phil? Pretty handsome without a headful of hair. A recent study that was done showed that shaving your thinning hair is actually perceived as manlier than getting hair plugs or toupees. The study also showed that those with shaved head are perceived as tougher, stronger and much more masculine than their thick haired counterparts.

Weird, But True News
Margarita Drongen, a Dutch witch, is being allowed to deduct brooms and spell lessons from her taxes. Staying Healthy Today
A new type of contact lens will be introduced this month that aims to actually cure nearsightedness. The idea is that if kids begin wearing them early enough, the lenses' unique design will train the eye to grow in a way that will eliminate vision problems.
THE PLAYGROUND
After falling for a decade, the rate of nonfatal injuries to children under five has risen 12%. How is that possible? Because we're paying more attention to our smartphone than to our kids! It seems that even though kids wear helmets more than ever, they are finding ways to get hurt while we send a text or update our Facebook status from our smartphone.
Of course, there are no hard statistics tying the two together, but child injury experts are associating the explosion in smart phone sales with the rise in injuries to young children. A dozen pediatricians and emergency-room physicians agreed saying they're seeing more injuries to young children.
Good News Story
I love stories about being being "unselfish" and doing great things for others. That's what the Vinton Breakfast Lions Club has done. They raised more than $8,000 during their annual "A Draw Down" fundraiser.
The Lions Club uses proceeds from the annual event to give scholarships to three seniors at William Byrd High School and to buy school and personal need supplies for students at Herman Horn, W.E. Cundiff and Bonsack elementary schools.
The money also is used for the club's annual Christmas Shopping trip for elementary students, eye exams, hearing devices and support to the Service Dogs Association. Very nice Lions.
